Men's Golf Places Fifth at Moravian Spring Tournament

BATH, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's golf team finished in fifth place among a field of twenty schools at the Annual Moravian Spring Invitational at the Southmoore Golf Course on Friday.

The Leopards were led by senior Andrew Mitchell (Eden Prairie, Minn./Blake) who finished in a six-way tie for ninth with a score of 78. Mitchell placed just four strokes off the leader, Josh Brennan from Lebanon Valley College.

Freshman Derek Downing (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown) came in second for the Leopards placing 24th with an 81. Two strokes behind him was teammate Frank Fazzinga (Hawthore, N.J./Bergen Catholic) who finished 37th with a total of 83.

In team scoring, Dowling (NY) led the tournament with a 313 beating out last year's champs from the College of New Jersey by one stroke who finished second with 314. Taking third was Moravian (320), followed by King's College (321) and Lafayette (326). The Leopards needed a team effort as they beat York College by a stroke as they finished with a 327.

Rounding out the scoring for Lafayette was freshmen John Semiz (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) and Talbot Fucci (West Hartford, Conn./Kingwood-Oxford) who finished with an 84 and 95, respectively.

The Leopards return to action on Sunday when they travel to Hempstead, N.Y., for the Hofstra Invitational.
