EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - It was a non-contact day for the 2001 Lafayette football team on Wednesday, as the freshmen attended two academic seminars and the upperclassmen went through more speed and strength testing drills.
"I am really impressed with the work ethic our upperclassmen showed this summer," said second-year Lafayette head coach Frank Tavani. "Their dedication and commitment to this program is definitely showing in the testing we have done today. Now, we just need to translate that energy and dedication onto the field."
A few positional changes were made while the Leopards were off the practice fields today. Senior Matt Kulp was moved from fullback to linebacker, while freshmen Stephen Bono and Michael Ruell were moved from the defensive line to the offensive line. It was also decided by the coaching staff that Joe McCourt, the Philadelphia Inquirer's 2000 City Player of the Year, will work out exclusively at tailback.
Lafayette continues preseason practice until classes begin on Monday, Aug. 27. The Leopards open the 2001 season when they travel to Towson for a Patriot League contest on Sept. 8, at 1 p.m.
