EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Head coach Frank Tavani announced the hiring of assistant coach David Jones. Upon joining the staff, Jones will assist in coaching the Leopards' offensive line.
Jones graduated from Muhlenberg College in May 2001 where he captained the 2000 football team that captured the ECAC Southwest Championship, Muhlenberg's first post-season championship in over 50 years. A three-year starter on the defensive line, he was a two-year All-American and three-year All-Centennial Conference for the Mules. Jones transferred to Muhlenberg after a freshman year at Lehigh University.
Jones was also an outstanding track and field athlete at Muhlenberg, serving as team captain for the 2001 indoor and outdoor seasons.
As a student-athlete at Bangor High School, Jones was recognized for his efforts by being named the Lehigh Valley Outstanding Scholar Athlete for football in 1997. He arrives at Lafayette with experience as a speed camp instructor for the Ed Ruisz Speed Advantage Training Camp.
A Bangor, Pa., native, Jones earned a bachelor of science degree in biology and was a member of the student athletic advisory committee.
The Leopards open the 2001 season when they travel to Towson for a Patriot League contest on Sept. 8, at 1 p.m.
