PHILADELPHIA (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette volleyball squad dropped a close match to Drexel to start day two of the La Salle Tournament in Philadelphia today. The individual games scores reflect a young team who is gaining more confidence each time they step on the court as the Leopards fell 30-20, 30-26 and 30-18 to the Dragons.
Defensive specialist Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) racked up 20 assists and five digs in the loss, while classmate Katherine Walkenhorst (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) led the offense with 10 kills.
Freshman middle hitter Erin Brune (Pasadena, Calif./Mayfield) hit for six kills while recording three digs and two service aces. Freshman Katy Quinn (Hempstead, N.Y.) also left her mark on the court by notching four kills for the match.
Sophomore Caroline Eshman (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) also contributed by tallying six kills and two digs.
Drexel (1-2) was led by Nadine Closs who registered 13 kills while Kelsey Rathgeber picked up 21 assists for the team's first win of the season.
Lafayette (0-3) returns to action for the final game of the La Salle Tournament when they meet Morgan State at 4:30.
