BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Leopard volleyball team was looking for their first win of the season but came up short as they fell to St. Francis (NY) 3-0. Individual games scores reflected the hard-fought match as the Terriers edged out Lafayette 30-21, 30-18, 30-21.
Lafayette was led by freshman middle hitter Erin Brune (Pasadena, Calif./Mayfield) who tallied seven kills and three blocks.
Freshman setter Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) added 14 assists, nine digs and two blocks for the Leopards.
Outside hitters Caroline Eshman (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) and Katherine Walkenhorst (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) and freshman Hannah Briggs (Easton, Pa./Easton) each notched three kills in the loss.
St. Francis (1-7) picked up its first win of the season and were led by Sylwia Turek who racked up 38 assists on the day. The Terriers return to action on Sept. 26 when they host Iona at 7:00 p.m.
Lafayette (0-7) travel to Lewisburg, Pa. on Friday for its Patriot League opener versus Bucknell at 7:00 p.m.
