EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette Volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to Robert Morris 3-0 in its home opener at Kirby Sports Center this afternoon. The Colonials won 30-19, 30-20, 30-15.
Freshman outside hitter Kate Walkenhorst (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) led Lafayette with seven kills and nine digs. Sophomore Caroline Eshman (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) put in a strong performance, recording five kills and four service aces for the match.
Freshman setter Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) led with a match-high 10 assists to bring her season total to 130.
Junior co-captain Sarah Deitsch (Forwood, N.J./Old Tappan) led the team defensively with 10 digs while Lori DeVito (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and Walkenhorst each tallied nine.
Senior co-captain Noelle Pepe (Rye, N.Y./Rye), freshman Hannah Briggs (Easton, Pa./Easton) and Olichwier teamed up for 3 block assists.
The Colonials were led by Julie Sector and Rachel Leitch with 11 and nine kills, respectively.
Robert Morris improved to 7-3 and travels to Bethlehem this afternoon to take on Lehigh at 5:00 p.m.
Lafayette falls to 0-11 overall and will face-off with Patriot League foe Holy Cross on Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m.
