EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Despite leading by as many as six points in the second game, the Lafayette volleyball team dropped three straight games to Army, 30-9, 30-24 and 30-24 tonight in Kirby Sports Center.
Lafayette showed improvement in the second and third games, but failed to control the flow of the game as they fall to 0-4 in the Patriot League and 0-13 overall. Army improved to 2-1 in the league and 4-6 overall.
The Leopards were led by Kate Walkenhorst (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) who notched eight kills and three service aces. Caroline Eshman (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) shot for four kills and five digs for the match.
Freshman setter Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) turned in a solid performance with 14 assists and six digs.
Army was led by Jamie Lister with 12 kills, Beth Bellinger with 21 assists, and Laura Bellinger with 10 digs.
The Black Knights are back on the road next week when they travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on league foe Bucknell on Friday at 7:00.
Lafayette travels to Philadelphia tomorrow to participate in the rescheduled Drexel Tournament. The Leopards play Fairleigh Dickinson at 12:00 p.m. and face off with Drexel at 4:00 p.m.
