Volleyball Drops Match to Fairleigh Dickinson

PHILADELPHIA (www.lafayette.edu) - A young Leopard volleyball squad has shown improvement in the past week, and managed to keep each game close as they fell to Fairleigh Dickinson 30-23, 30-26, 30-24 today in Philadelphia. The contest was part of the rescheduled Drexel Tournament originally dated for Sept. 14-15.

Lafayette was led by Kate Walkenhorst (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall) who shot for nine kills and picked up 11 digs for the match. The Leopards were helped by the return of freshman Erin Brune (Pasadena, Calif./Mayfield) who missed the last two matches. Brune added seven kills and 12 digs while serving up four aces.

Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) dished out 26 assists in the match, bringing her season total to 192.

The Knights were led by Trisha Nunnenkamp with 15 kills, Randi Kluemper with 36 assists, and Sharon Becker with 12 digs.

Fairleigh Dickinson improved to 5-5 overall and returns home for its conference opener versus Wagner on Oct. 6 at 1:00 p.m.

Lafayette (0-14, 0-4) returns to the safe confines of Kirby Sports Center on Oct. 3 when they take on non-conference opponent Rider at 7:00.
