Golf Places Eighth at Lehigh Invitational

TELFORD, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette golf team turned in a solid performance at the Don Mershon Classic hosted by Lehigh University on Sunday and Monday. The Leopards finished eighth in the 15-team event held at par-72 Indian Valley Country Club.

Bradley Rock was the Leopards' top finisher , shooting a pair of 79s for a 158. Michael Aarts sliced three stokes off his first-round 81 to shoot a 159 for the tournament and place 26th.

Jeremiah O'Neill (76-86) and Jesse Morgan (83-79) both shot 162's and ended in a tie for 39th. Derek Downing rounded out the Lafayette contingent with a 54th-place finish (83-84-167) in the 75-golfer field.

George Washington University won the team title, shooting a 605 to finish 10 strokes ahead of host Lehigh. GW's Michael Ball carded a three-over -par 147 (75-72) to bring home medalist honors.

Lafayette wraps up its 2002 fall season on Saturday and Sunday at the Binghamton Invitational.
