Leopard Golf Finishes Eighth At ECAC Championship

APALACHIN, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette golf team turned in a strong second round and finished in eighth place in the 16-team field at the ECAC Men's Open Championship on Sunday. Lafayette shot a 316 in the final round at the Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin, N.Y.

The Leopards were led by freshman Michael Aarts who finished tied for 21st. Aarts followed his opening-round 74 with an 80 for a tournament total of 154. Bradley Rock ended tied for 26th with a 155. He managed an 80 in the final round on Sunday which followed his 75 on Saturday.

Jeremiah O'Neill was consistent for the Leopards, carding two rounds of 79 to finish tied for 33rd in the 80-golfer field. Joshua Shepard shaved five strokes off his first-round 82 to shoot a 77 on Sunday and finish with a 159 for the event. Brad Godette placed 77th (87-84-171).

Binghamton won the team title with a score of 588 (292-296) led by individual medalist Adam Fuchs (70-76-146) and two other top three finishers.

Lafayette returns to action Oct. 13-14 at the Lehigh Invitational.
