WESTOVER, Md. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette golf team fell from 15th to 20th in the second and final round of the 2002 Drew Upton Tiger Golf Classic, hosted by Towson University at the par-72, 7,047-yard Great Hope Golf Club.
Lafayette sat in 15th place after day one of the tournament, but fired a 320 to drop five places. Each Leopard carded a higher number in the second round except for freshman Jeremiah O'Neil, who finished with a four-over 76 to tie for 67th place at 81-76--157.
Loyola captured the team title with a two-day total of two-over 578, while Navy finished two strokes behind at 580. Army took third at 581, while Binghamton was fourth at 587 and Towson ended up fifth at 591.
The individual championship went to Navy's Billy Hurley with a five-under 139, edging out Colgate's Jesse Smith by one stroke.
Lafayette sophomore Brad Rock tied for 72nd with a 77-81--158, while freshman Sean McMonagle tied for 77th after carding a 79-80--159 and freshman Josh Shepard tied for 92nd with a 74-88--162
The Leopards compete in the Hofstra Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, April 8-9.
