Leopards Finish 8th At 2002 Patriot League Golf Championships

WEST POINT, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Brad Rock paced the Lafayette golf team with a 33rd place finish in the 2002 Patriot League Championships at the par-70, 6,036-yard West Point Golf Club. Lafayette finished eight overall with a team score of 321-323-330--974 and were led in today's final round by Sean McMonagle's 78.

Host Army finished seven over par (271-292-284--847) to easily capture the team title by 29 strokes, beating out Navy which edged Lehigh by just two strokes. Colgate finished fourth, while Bucknell was fifth, American was sixth and Holy Cross was seventh.

Army's Scott Manley earned medalist honors after winning a three-hole playoff over teammate Kevin Lee and Navy's Billy Hurley. All three golfers finished with a Patriot League Championships three-round record total of 209, which was one-under for the tournament.

Rock fired Lafayette's lowest score of the tournament with a 76 in round two. Jeremiah O'Neill finished 38th with a 77-83-85--245, while Josh Shepard was 41st with an 84-78-85--247. McMonagle tied for 43rd place after his third round 78, while Jason Seidman tied for 46th place with a 254 and Bill Broomall was 48th with a 261.

The Leopards host Muhlenberg, Moravian and Lehigh on Tuesday, April 23 at Northampton Country Club.
