MLAX Downed by Bucknell, 13-7

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Bucknell scored three straight goals to open the game and lead wire to wire in a 13-7 victory over Lafayette in Patriot League men's lacrosse action on Saturday at Rappolt Field.

Patrick Christensen, Dennis Geraghty and Chris Cara all scored in the first six minutes of the first quarter for Bucknell. Cara assisted on the first two goals and was on the business end of the third goal at 9:16. Lafayette answered with goals by Tim Derosier and Matt Prevost that cut the lead to 3-2. Bucknell's Geraghty gave the Bison a 4-2 lead with a goal with 35 seconds left in the quarter.

Lafayette came out shooting in the second quarter, Pat Lennon scored a goal just 25 seconds in and Kyle McClure followed with two more over the next seven minutes to give Lafayette a 5-4 lead at 7:20. Bucknell (4-5, 3-1) responded with four goals of its own to close out the quarter. Christensen scored the equalizer at 5:12. Andrew Sanders followed with two straight tallies at 2:09 and :11.8. Cara scored with just four seconds left in the half to give Bucknell an 8-5 halftime lead.

Bucknell essentially sealed the game in the slow-paced third quarter. The Bison outscored Lafayette 2-0 on goals by Rob Lane and Patrick O'Hearn to lead 10-5.

Prevost opened the final quarter of play with a goal off an assist by Mike Fiorillo at 12:40. Bucknell quelled the Lafayette rally with three goals in a seven-minute span. Geraghty, who finished the day with three goals, Cara and Craig Fleischman connected beginning at 10:02 and ending at 3:08. Lennon's 10th goal of the season came at :12.2 and put the final at 13-7.

Cara was the offensive star for Bucknell, scoring three goals while assisting on five. McClure led the way for Lafayette with two goals and an assist.

Kevin DeVito played all 60 minutes in goal for Lafayette, recording 12 saves. Justin Sussman stopped four shots in goal for Bucknell.

Lafayette (1-7, 0-4) returns to action on April 13 at Holy Cross.
