EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette football team finished its second day of workouts with shoulder pads and is now preparing for the first full pads practice on Sunday. Head coach Frank Tavani said he wants the team to gradually build every day so the Leopards peak at the right time.
"We're building up to a little bit more," Tavani said. "There are more collisions out there, but this is a game of collisions. With each one of these practices coming up with full pads, it will intensify."
The Leopards practiced at Metzgar Fields in 90-degree heat in the third of a seven-day stretch of two-a-day sessions. Team and positional meetings this evening will wrap up day six of camp.
The squad will be back on the field Sunday with practices scheduled for 8:30-10:30 a.m. and 4:15-6:00 p.m.
Preseason camp continues until Aug. 26 when classes begin. The Leopards open the 2002 season Sept. 7 when they host Monmouth at 1 p.m. at Fisher Field.
