EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette football team concluded two weeks of preseason camp with a controlled scrimmage at Fisher Field this morning. The Leopards' coaching staff had a chance to see starters and backups perform in a variety of situations, including numerous red zone and third down scenarios.
"I was extremely pleased with the effort, attitude and enthusiasm out here today," said third-year head coach Frank Tavani immediately following the scrimmage. "All of our players with minor injuries are due to return on Tuesday so we will have two full weeks to prepare for Monmouth."
The Leopards' defense, which many preseason prognosticators believe is the team's biggest weakness, was impressive throughout the scrimmage. In fact, the first team defense held strong on the first drive of the day, limiting the first team offense to a field goal attempt that missed wide left.
The first half of play included two touchdown passes, one of 11 yards from Michael O'Connor to Joshua Keister and a 14-yard connection from Tom Emanski to Jim Renitsky.
Tomorrow is the first day of classes at Lafayette, thus beginning the team's 4 p.m. daily practice schedule. The Leopards open the 2002 season Sept. 7 when they host Monmouth at 1 p.m. at Fisher Field.

Joel Cesare (Jr., WR) - out 3-5 days with a strained hamstring.
Eric Fizur (Fr., OL) - out 5-7 days with a concussion.
Michael Lewandos (So., OL) - out 3-5 days with an ankle injury.
Michael McAfee (Jr., OL) - out 2-3 weeks with a dislocated shoulder.
Blake McCoy (Fr., OL) - out indefinitely with a neck injury.
Casey McKeen (Sr., DL) - out 3-5 days with a hip flexor.
Gus Ottoson (Fr., DL) - will have season-ending shoulder surgery after suffering injury in summer high school all-star game.
Bill Stocker (Sr., DB) - out 3-5 days with a strained hamstring.
Tim Walsh (Jr., TE) - out 3-5 days with a neck strain.
Paul Ziska (So. DL) - out indefinitely with a separated shoulder.
