DURHAM, N.H. (www.lafayette.edu) - Steve Orloff netted a goal 2:31 into the first overtime session to break a scoreless tie and give the Lafayette men's soccer team a 1-0 win over Vermont (1-1) in the second round of the University of New Hampshire Nike Fall Soccer Classic on Sunday.
Orloff took a feed from Ralph Rapuano on the left side and blasted a low shot from 12 yards out that skirted inside the left post and beat Vermont keeper David Sullivan.
Jay Freedman made a strong showing in goal for the Leopards, making four saves. His Vermont counterpart, Sullivan, also made four saves. Lafayette was outshot 12-10.
Lafayette bounced back from a 2-1 loss to host New Hampshire in the opening round of the tournament to capture second palce via a head-to-head tiebreaker against Vermont. New Hampshire claimed the tournament title. Orloff, Paulo Coelho and Tom Wajda were named to the all-tournament team for the Leopards.
Lafayette (1-1) returns to action at 4 p.m.on Friday in the Lehigh Soccer Classic. The Leopards play Appalachian State.
