Lafayette Volleyball Falls to Fairleigh Dickinson

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) -The Lafayette volleyball team lost a heartbreaker to Fairleigh Dickinson 3-2 (30-25, 26-30, 23-30, 30-25, 12-15) in a non-conference match up in Teaneck, N.J. on Wednesday night.

Freshman Veronica Canto-Ponce (La Jolla, Calif.) led the Leopards once again with her 16 kills and 15 digs. Canto-Ponce also had three block assists and two service aces in the match.

Fellow freshman Shannon Fisher (Coplay, Pa.) recorded 12 blocks and 11 digs along with four block assists and one service ace.

Junior setter Heidi Olichwier (Arlington Heights, Ill.) tallied nine kills and 19 digs. Olichwier also had one service ace and recorded a game high 42 assists.

Fairleigh Dickinson was led by Sharon Becker with 16 kills and 15 digs. Kristin Risberg also had 13 kills and four block assists.

Lafayette falls to 5-19 on the season while the Knights improve to 4-24.

The Leopards will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 31 when they take on Patriot League foe Bucknell at 7 p.m. in the Kirby Sports Center.
