Leopard Football Falls to Georgetown, 17-10

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Georgetown put together a 14-play, 95-yard drive midway through the fourth quarter to score the go-ahead touchdown in a 17-10 win over Lafayette on Saturday.

After a scoreless first quarter, Georgetown took its first lead just 2:04 into the second stanza when Andre Crawford hit Craig Agnello for a 20-yard scoring toss. Michael Gillman added the point-after for a 7-0 Hoyas lead.

With 5:15 remaining in the second period, senior Mike Beatrice got the Leopards on the board by converting a 36-yard field goal, the first attempt of his career.

Lafayette took the opening kickoff of the second half 62 yards in seven plays, with Marko Glavic finding John Weyrauch in the end zone from 17 yards out. Beatrice's point-after attempt split the uprights and the Leopards led 10-7 with 11:26 left in the third quarter.

The Hoyas answered with a 40-yard field goal by Gillman with 5:47 remaining in the third quarter.

Georgetown took the lead for good on a 14-play, 95-yard drive that ate 6:24 off the clock in the fourth quarter. On third-and-10 from the Lafayette 35, Crawford was sacked but a facemasking penalty on Lafayette moved the ball to the 30. Crawford hit Luke McArdle on a 26-yard pass to the four and on the next play John Sims took it in to put the Hoyas up 17-10.

Lafayette's ensuing drive stalled at the Georgetown 34, and the Hoyas ran the final 2:42 off the clock.

Junior tailback Joe McCourt carried 23 times for 93 yards for the Leopards. Glavic was 15 of 33 passing for 166 yards and a touchdown. Weyrauch caught four balls for 49 yards and a score.

Defensively, Wes Erbe was in on 13 tackles (six solo, seven assists), including four for a loss of 18 yards. He also collected a pair of sacks. Blake Costanzo tallied 12 tackles (nine solo, three assists), including two for a loss of nine yards.

For the Hoyas, Sims carried 10 times for 63 yards and a touchdown, all in the second half. He collected 24 yards on Georgetown's game-winning march, then reeled off a 22-yarder as the Hoyas were running out the clock.

Crawford completed 20 of 28 throws for 203 yards and a score. McArdle caught eight balls for 98 yards.

William Skultety recorded 12 tackles (eight solo, four assists) including one sack for a loss of six yards.

Georgetown (1-4 overall, 1-2 Patriot League) hosts Stony Brook next Saturday at 2 p.m. Lafayette (2-2 overall, 0-2 Patriot League) closes out a three-game homestand next week, hosting Columbia at 1 p.m.
