EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette junior running back Joe McCourt (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
McCourt rushed 34 times for a career-high 209 yards and scored a career-high four touchdowns in Lafayette's 35-17 win over Bucknell on Saturday. He also caught three passes for 25 yards. Saturday's game marked the 15th time McCourt has rushed for at least 100 yards in a game and the second time he has broken the 200-yard barrier.
McCourt now sits third on Lafayette's all-time rushing list with 3,064 yards. He is just the third Leopard to reach the 3,000-yard plateau.
McCourt earns Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in his career. He also earned the accolade after rushing for 147 yards and two fourth-quarter touchdowns and catching eight passes for 68 yards in Lafayette's 28-21 win at Columbia last season. In addition, McCourt was named Rookie of the Week three times as a freshman in 2001.
This season, McCourt has run 208 times for 940 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also leads the Leopards in receptions with 39 for 344 yards and two touchdowns.
