LUMBERTON, N.C. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's golf team rests in a tie for eighth place after the first round of the UNC-Pembroke Tournament on Monday at par-72, 6,578-yard Pincrest Country Club.
Michael Aarts paced the Leopards with a two-over 74, placing him in a tie for 14th overall. Three other Leopards carded scores in the 70s, including Jeremiah O'Neill with a 76, Brad Rock with a 77 and Garett Copp with a 79. Rounding out Lafayette's scores was Jesse Morgan with an 88.
Host UNC-Pembroke is leading the tournament with an even-par team score of 288. The Leopards are tied with Reinhardt College with a team score of 18-over 306. Southern Wesleyan's Nick Gottfried leads the field after firing a four-under 68 in the first round.
The second and final round of the tournament is scheduled for tomorrow.
