Leopard Golfers Finish Second At Canisius Invitational

EASTON, Md. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette freshman golfer Michael Aarts defeated Eric Couture of St. Francis (Pa.) on the first play-off hole to claim medalist honors at the 2003 Canisius Spring Invitational with a two-day total of seven-over 149 (76-73). The tournament was held at The Easton Club, a par-71, 6,419-yard course in Easton, Md.

As a team, Lafayette finished in second place at 630, 11 strokes behind team champion Long Island University and one stroke ahead of Siena. Hofstra finished fourth at 635 and Niagara rounded out the top-five at 639.

Lafayette's Derek Downing also finished in the top 20, recording an 80-79--159 to tie for 19th place. Bradley Rock and Brad Godette tied for 29th to round out Lafayette's top-four scores of the tournament. Rock fired an 82-81--163, while Godette carded 79-84-163.

The Leopards will play on Tuesday, April 22 at the St. Peter's Invitational before competing in the Patriot League Championships at Saucon Valley Country Club on April 26-27.
