Lafayette Football Team Names Captains for 2003 Season

Aug. 28, 2003

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette head football coach Frank Tavani announced the 2003 team captains today.

Senior quarterback Marko Glavic (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic), senior receiver John Weyrauch (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) and junior linebackers Wes Erbe (Wall, N.J./Admiral Farragut-St. Petersburg, Fla.) and John-Frank Stubits (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) were selected by their teammates to serve as captains.

"I think the team was looking for guys that can help pull us through an 11-game season and be leaders in the good times and not-so-good times," Tavani said. "Each of these guys are very deserving and will do a great job leading our football team."

Glavic is entering his fourth season as the starting quarterback. He begins 2003 just 1,305 yards behind Frank Baur's school record of 7,094 career passing yards and has led the Patriot League in passing yards each of his first three seasons. In 2002, Glavic earned All-Patriot League Second-Team honors after completing 221 passes for 2,670 yards and 20 touchdowns.

The 2003 season will be Weyrauch's third as a starting receiver. He enters the season as the fourth all-time leading pass catcher in Lafayette history with 1,799 career yards on 121 career receptions. Weyrauch earned second-team All-League honors in 2002 after catching 63 passes for 910 yards and eight touchdowns.

Erbe is entering his second season as a starter at linebacker. A two-year letterman, Erbe made 63 tackles in 2002, including a season-high 11 against Fordham. He also tallied two sacks and recovered a fumble last season.

Stubits, who started all 12 games in 2002, is the team's leading returning tackler after making 73 stops a year ago. Stubits, a two-year letterman, also intercepted two passes and recovered a pair of fumbles last season.

Lafayette opens the 2003 season at home against Marist on Sept. 6. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Fisher Field.
