WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (www.lafayette.edu) - Kevin Chysna's first career goal, scored late in the second half, was the difference as Lafayette improved to 12-4 on the season with a 1-0 win in non-conference men's soccer action at Monmouth on Wednesday afternoon.
The goal, which came at 77:45, was set up when sophomore Justin Esposito played a cross into the penalty box and freshman Scott Hawkins headed the ball out to Chysna. The junior defender beat Hawks netminder Art Satterwhite, who made five saves in the match.
Mike Tortora, the Leopards' junior goalkeeper, made two saves for his fifth shutout of the season. He faced nine shots and two corners. Lafayette earned eight corners and put six shots on goal in the second half.
Lafayette will host American on Saturday night at 7 p.m with both teams looking to secure the top seed in the Patriot League tournament. The Leopards enter the match with a 4-2 record in league play, while the Eagles sit in first place at 5-1.
