MADISON, N.J. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's fencing team won one of four matches at Drew University on Sunday. The Leopards picked up a 20-7 win over Steven's Institute, but dropped matches with Drew, Army and New Jersey Institute.
Lafayette swept Steven's, taking a 9-0 win in foil, 5-4 win in epee and 6-3 win in sabre. The Leopards' only other win on the day was a 6-3 decision in foil against New Jersey Institute.
Three Leopards posted winning records on the day, led by Tom Gaunter's 9-3 mark in sabre. He picked up his 100th career win on Sunday and is now 103-42 for his career. Also finishing with winning records on Sunday were Brendan O'Dea (7-4 in foil) and Bobby Boguski (7-5 in epee), while Gaunter, Mark Lodato and Mathew Ingraham all were 3-0 against Steven's Institute.
Lafayette returns to action on Feb. 15, hosting Johns Hopkins, Cornell and St. John's at 11 a.m.
