PRINCETON, N.J. (www.lafayette.edu) - Senior Heidi Olichwier and sophomore Veronica Canto-Ponce both reached personal milestones on Tuesday night, but the Lafayette volleyball team (7-4) came up short at Princeton. The Leopards won the first game, 30-24 before falling in four games to the Tigers, ending Lafayette's four match winning streak.
Olichwier handed out a season-high 47 assists and surpassed the 2,500 assist plateau in the opening game, in which Lafayette had 22 kills to just four errors. The senior setter hasn't missed a game in her career.
Canto-Ponce pounded 21 kills in the match, pushing her past 500 career kills in her second season at Lafayette.
Princeton (7-1) won the second game, 30-20, and went ahead 18-10 in the third before the Leopards made a push to close the gap to 20-17. The Tigers went on to close the game out at 30-20, however, and claimed the fourth set 30-17.
Freshman Lauren Dalsky posted her first career double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs, while classmate Michaela Donohue, who ranks second in the Patriot League in digs, had 20 digs and six kills.
Sophomore Shannon Fisher also had a strong performance with 13 kills and 11 digs.
Princeton was led by 18 kills from Alex Brown and 48 assists from Jenny Senske. A quartet of Tigers posted at least 10 digs each.
Lafayette will host Lehigh on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Patriot League opener for both squads. Last year, the Leopards downed the Mountain Hawks in four games in the season finale, led by Canto-Ponce's 23 kills and Olichwier's 48 assists
