KUTZTOWN, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette volleyball team fell to 3-3 on the season on Wednesday night at Kutztown, as the Golden Bears won a 30-21, 30-24, 30-26 decision against the Leopards.
Kutztown came out strong in the first game, recording 17 kills and just five errors. The Golden Bears had 54 kills in the match, compared to 32 for the Leopards. Sarah Brandon led KU with 18 kills, while Shannon Sullivan and Dani Witherite had 12 each.
Lafayette was led by seven kills from Veronica Canto-Ponce and Shannon Fisher. Setter Heidi Olichwier finished with 23 assists and a team-best 10 digs. The full roster got floor time for the first time this season. Freshman Lauren Dalsky had eight digs in her first action as a Leopard.
Katie Herman recorded 46 assists for the Golden Bears. Nicole Biuso posted 20 digs, and Sullivan followed up with 16.
The Leopards will host the Lafayette Tournament this weekend at the Kirby Sports Center, as Farleigh Dickinson, Howard and Sacred Heart come to College Hill for two days of play. Lafayette opens its appearance on Friday at 7 p.m., and will also be in action on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
