Men's Golf Takes Fifth At Monmouth Quad Match

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's golf team just missed a fourth place finish, as the team finished one stroke behind Saint Peter's to grab fifth at a quad match hosted by Monmouth Tuesday afternoon at Deal Golf and Country Club.

The Leopards recorded a 325 and was slightly bested by Saint Peter's (324). Monmouth earned the quad-match victory on the par-71, 6,400-yard course, turning in a round of 303. Fairleigh Dickinson also competed and came in second with a 318.

Lafayette's Chris Johnston led the Leopards for the first time this fall season, as the sophomore finished with a 78 (+7). Teammate and rookie Kenneth Suarez finished on the heels of Johnston, turning in a 79 (+8).

Senior Brad Godette ended the day with an 82, while freshmen Pat Gallagher and Bobby Ayala finished with rounds of 86 and 88, respectively. Rounding out the Leopards competitors was another rookie in Steven Melnic, who registered a 93.

Monmouth's Anthony Campanile led all golfers with a respectable two-over-par round of 73.

Lafayette returns to action at the Don Mershon Invitational at Indian Valley Country Club Oct. 9-10. The invite is hosted by archrival Lehigh.
