Lafayette experienced its most successful season in a decade in 2004, earning the program's first Patriot League championship since 1994 and first postseason berth in school history. The Leopards, ranked No. 19 nationally in both The Sports Network and ESPN/USA Today final polls, claimed the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I-AA Playoffs by virtue of their 24-10 win over Lehigh in the regular season finale at Fisher Field on Nov. 20.
Head coach Frank Tavani was named the 2004 Patriot League Coach of the Year, while senior tailback Joe McCourt was recognized as the league's Offensive Player of the Year.
Lafayette will open spring drills on April 2. The Leopards are tentatively slated to open the 2005 season at Marist on Sept. 3.
