PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette women's volleyball team fell in its season-opener to La Salle at the Explorers' weekend tournament. La Salle downed the Leopards in three, winning 30-23, 30-14, 30-21 at Tom Gola Arena.
Freshman Audrey O'Donnell recorded a team-high five kills, while junior Shannon Fisher and senior Catherine Herchenroder each tallied four on the day.
Rookies Ainhoa Barturen, Megan Carter, Kathleen Kretzmer and Venessa Wilcox all saw significant playing time in all three games. Kretzmer started all three games at the setter spot and finished the day with 16 of the team's 19 sets.
The Leopards closed out the day with 21 total kills.
La Salle's Stephanie Owen led the Explorers' attack, rounding out the match with 15 kills, 10 digs and two block assists.
The Leopards drop to 0-1 on the season, while La Salle improved to 2-0.
Tournament play concludes tomorrow, Sept. 3, and the Leopards will be featured in two of the day's five matches. Lafayette will square-off with Providence at 2:00 and Fairleigh Dickinson in the day's final match at 7:00.
