EASTON, Pa. - For the second straight reporting week, Lafayette junior forward Scott Hawkins (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) has been named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week.
Due to a weather postponement, Lafayette had just one contest last week, but Hawkins used it to stay in the league's spotlight. With regulation time winding down on Saturday against Bucknell, the game appeared as if it were going to go to overtime. But, with just 27 seconds remaining in regular time, Steve Ference found Hawkins with a cross and Hawkins handed Lafayette the dramatic 1-0 win.
Hawkins' game-winning header was his team-leading sixth goal of the season. The junior also scored both of the Leopards' goals in Lafayette's last Patriot League contest, a 2-0 decision vs. Army on Sept. 30.
Hawkins has 17 career goals and ranks 12th in Lafayette history, needing just one more goal to move into the top 10.
Reigning Patriot League champion Lafayette is now 7-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in Patriot League play. The Leopards, travel to face Big East foe Georgetown on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. kick-off.
