ANNAPOLIS, Md. (www.lafayette.edu) - Playing in the Navy Spring Invitational, Lafayette got a preview of the Naval Academy Golf Course that will provide the backdrop of the Patriot League Tournament in less than a week. The Leopards finished in 14th on the weekend, as senior Tom Palmer paced the Leopards for the second straight weekend.
After a three-over-par effort in Friday's opening round, Palmer shot a 77 to finish tied for 35th with a 151 overall. The veteran tied with nine other golfers, while junior Kyle Manjuck hit just one stroke behind, tying for 45th with a 152 (74-77).
Manjuck's classmate, Dave Rahal, stayed consistent both days, carding a 163 (81-82). Also contributing to the Leopards' 628 score overall was freshman Kenneth Suarez with a 165 (81-84). Rookie Anoop Shah shaved seven strokes off his first round of 88 to finish with a 169.
Navy's Erich Shoen capped a brilliant weekend by taking the title. Shoen led the Navy Gold at with a three-under-par 139. On the par-71 course, he shot a 66 and 73 on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Navy won their own tournament with a 582 (289-293), while Rider (296-289-585) and Loyola (294-292-586) came in second and third, respectively.
The Leopards are back on the course for the Lehigh Valley Quad Match on Tuesday at Northampton Country Club at 1:30 p.m.
