ANNAPOLIS, Md. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's golf team finished in fifth place after a wet, gloomy day one of the Patriot League Championships at the Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis. Anoop Shah and Chris Johnston led the 'Pards, both shooting 78.
Shah and Johnston are nine strokes off the lead and are among 13 players within that margin to current leader Charles Waddell of Bucknell. Waddell shot two-under-par with a 69 (34-35). The par-71 course plays 6,611 yards.
Senior Tom Palmer, who got top billing for the Leopards last weekend on the same course at the Navy Spring Invite, shot a 79 (41-38) for 19th.
Junior Dave Rahal also earned points for Lafayette, coming in 29th with a 41 on both the front and back nine to finish with an 82.
After round one, Bucknell topped the leaderboard with a 299, while Army (303) and Navy (310) stand second and third, respectively.
The teams began the second round of play, but poor conditions and soaking rain forced a postponement. A 9 a.m. start to continue round two is scheduled for Sunday, while the final round should start at approximately 1 p.m.
