LAKEWOOD, N.J. (www.lafayette.edu) - Heading into today's final round, the Lafayette golf team stands seventh overall after day one at the Monmouth Hawk Invitational at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course. Six strokes back, freshman Anoop Shah is ninth going into today's action to lead Lafayette.
Shah posted a 78 (41-37) on the par-71, 6746-yard and is among five golfers from as many different institutions to remain deadlocked for ninth. Next on the board for the Leopards falls junior Dave Rahal (42-39-81), who is tied for 21st.
A slim two strokes behind Rahal, sophomore Chris Johnston and freshman Kenneth Suarez finished the opening day with an 83. Johnston supplemented his first round 46 with a solid 37 on the back nine, which matched Shah for the team low for the day. Suarez posted a 41 and 42.
Senior Tom Palmer and junior Kyle Manjuck turned in scores of 86 and 94, respectively.
St. Francis (Pa.) and fellow Patriot League foe Bucknell paced the teams on Sunday and stand in first and second, respectively.
The final round of action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in Lawrenceville, N.J.
