EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - With a breadth of home matches on the fall schedule, Lafayette was looking to take advantage of playing on it's own Sullivan Courts from the start. Just two weeks into action, the Leopards have done just that, most recently with a 7-0 win over Rider on Friday afternoon to move to 2-0 on the season.
Lafayette set the tone early in the day, earning the doubles point with wins from all courts. Juniors Brett Kraft and Paul Guarino teamed to take an 8-1 decision from Rider's Will Haight and Marc Ashed in the first flight. At No. 2 doubles, freshman Matt McGranaghan and sophomore Lee Kojanis remained undefeated as a pair with an 8-2 ousting of Karl Wojciechowski and Bobby Warlow of Rider. Lafayette continued to breath easy through the third doubles flight, as Eric Wiley and Steven Benezra teamed to beat Mike Straub and Tom Becker, 8-1.
Guarino maintained momentum heading into his battle with Haight at No. 1 singles. The veteran was able to earn a win in what was closest match of the day. Guarino won 6-3, 3-6 (10-8).
In the second flight, Kraft outdid Ashed, 6-2, 6-0, while McGranaghan was too much for Wojciechowski in third singles action, 6-0, 6-3. Wiley and Benezra disposed of their respective opponents, both by 6-0, 6-0 margins, while Rider's Straub gave Kojanis little trouble in the five slot (6-1, 6-0).
The Leopards have a day off before returning to the court on Sunday, as Lafayette hosts Robert Morris at 10 a.m.
