Bronx, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Fordham sophomore forward Katie Sanchez tallied a goal and two assists to help the Rams defeat Lafayette 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at Jack Coffey Field in the Bronx, N.Y.

The Rams got on the board in the eighth minute when junior forward Erica Frizzell scored on a cross from Sanchez to record her second goal of the season. However, the Fordham lead would be short lived. Forty-nine seconds later, Lafayette junior tri-captain Caroline Tuttle took a pass from sophomore Lauren Hinkel, and placed a shot just over the reach of Fordham goalkeeper Allie Cacciotti to tie the game at one.

The Leopards struck again when they used a Fordham foul in the penalty box and were awarded their first penalty kick of the year. Junior tri-captain Ashley Yelland took the penalty kick and scored to the lower left side of the net to give Lafayette a 2-1 lead. The seesaw battle continued when Fordham scored in the 32nd minute, as Sanchez put home a pass from freshman forward Brittany Hogan to tie the game at two.

The Rams would score what would turn out to be the game winner in the 36th minute, as Holly Laubinger took a corner kick that found Hogan. Hogan took the shot and was initially stopped by Leopard junior goalkeeper Mary Kate Erdman. Unfortunately for the Leopards, the rebound came right back Hogan, she put the goal into the back of the net to give the Rams a 3-2 lead.

Fordham added an insurance goal in the 66th minute when senior forward Haley Lentsch one-timed a shot just inside the far post from 15 yards away.

Erdman recorded five saves for the Leopards, while Cacciotti tallied one save for the Fordham win.

The Leopards now turn their attention to Patriot League play. Lafayette will have a full week of practice in preparation for their Patriot League opener on Saturday Sept. 30, when Lehigh comes to Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
