EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette volleyball team (12-14, 3-6) recorded a dominant 3-0 win over Wagner on Wednesday night in non-conference action. The victory was the Leopards' fourth-straight over Wagner and 12th overall this season.
Senior Michaela Donohue and sophomore Kari Horn both reached double figures in digs with 12 and 13, respectively, while Donohue led both teams with eight kills on the night. Junior Megan Carter tallied a match-best 21 assists, while sophomore Ashton Rossi added 10.
The Leopards rattled off six straight points to take a 10-4 lead in the first game. Lafayette increased its lead to 24-12 after an attacking error by Wagner's Ashley Pepper. The Leopards would go on to score the final five points of the game to secure the 30-15 win. Freshman Katrina Racibarskas had four of her seven kills in the game while Horn led the team with seven digs.
The second game remained close for the first half of play with the score tied at 11 before Lafayette would take control of the game. The Leopards gained the lead at 13-12 on a kill by Donohue and upped their lead to five at 19-14. Lafayette held a nine point edge at 29-21 before closing out the 30-21 win. Donohue had three kills and five digs in the game.
Lafayette had another strong showing in the third and final game. The Leopards took a quick 2-0 lead to open the game. The Seahawks would take a slight edge at 4-3 but Lafayette tied the game at four and went ahead after a bad set by Erin Henneberger. The Leopards would not surrender their lead for the remainder of the game, taking a nine-point lead at 18-9 on a kill by freshman Kelsey Slater in her first action of the night. The lead would increase to 11 at 25-14 as the Leopards went on to the 30-21 victory. Rossi recorded all 10 of her assists in the third game.
The Leopards return to Patriot League action when they travel to archrival Lehigh on Friday for a 7 p.m. match. Lafayette defeated the Mountain Hawks 3-0 earlier this season in the team's first league victory of the fall.
