EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette men's soccer player B.J. Glenn earned two honors this week following his two-goal performance in the Leopards' 2-1 defeat of Bucknell on Saturday. The freshman was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week and also earned a spot on the College Soccer News' National Team of the Week.
Glenn provided all the offense Lafayette (7-2-5, 2-1-2) needed to defeat the Bison in a critical Patriot League match-up. He scored his first goal in the eighth minute of the game on a pass from junior Corey Dempsey to put the Leopards ahead early. His second goal of the match came in the 34th minute on an assist from sophomore Chip Aronica. While Bucknell would score with less than five minutes remaining in the game, Glenn's two scores held up and Lafayette secured the key league victory.
With his two goals against the Bison, the Philadelphia, Pa. native now has four this season, good for second on the team and tied for first among Patriot League freshmen. Glenn has also proven reliable in the clutch, netting two game-winning goals to again tie for the lead among all league rookies.
By earning a spot on the College Soccer News' National Team of the Week, Glenn becomes just the second player under seventh-year head coach Dennis Bohn to earn that honor. Earlier this season, senior Luke Sullivan became the first after playing a key role in the Leopards' 1-0 win over archrival Lehigh on Sept. 29.
Prior to the start of the season, Glenn was named to the College Soccer News' `Top 100 Freshmen to Keep an Eye on in 2007.' He was the first-ever Lafayette soccer player to earn that preseason distinction and was one of just two Patriot League players named to this year's list.
Lafayette, currently ranked fourth in the NSCAA's Mid-Atlantic Region, will take a break from Patriot League play when the team hosts No. 20 West Virginia on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. The game will be televised by the Lafayette Sports Network live on RCN-4 and WBPH-60. In addition, the match will be replayed on RCN on Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. and CSTV will debut the game to a national audience on Nov. 2 at 10:30 p.m.
