Leopards Sweep East Stroudsburg in Non-Conference Volleyball Action

Nov. 6, 2007

Box Score

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over East Stroudsburg on Tuesday night in the team's final non-conference match of the year. Senior Michaela Donohue finished with 10 digs, moving her with 10 of becoming the Patriot League career leader in that category.

Donohue now has 1578 digs for her career and needs just 10 more to become the Patriot League's all-time digs leader. She stands behind only Bucknell's Brandi Trapasso (2000-03), who finished with 1588 for her career.

Sophomore Kari Horn tallied double figures in digs with a match-high 22 while junior Megan Carter added 24 assists. Freshman Katrina Racibarskas and Donohue led Lafayette with nine kills each.

The first game was a back-and-forth battle. The Leopards led early (6-3) following a kill by Kayly Elmer. The Warriors tied the score at six after an attacking error by Elmer and at several points held a three-point edge over Lafayette. East Stroudsburg would maintain it advantage over Lafayette before the Leopards tied the game at 22 after an attacking error by Alyson Stark. Lafayette would increase its lead to seven points at 29-22 but the Warriors would not give in, scoring six-straight points to make the score 29-28. A service error by ESU's Brianne Bachman, however, gave the Leopards a 30-28 win in the first game.

Despite falling behind early in the second game, including a five-point deficit at 6-1, Lafayette bounced back to win the second game, 30-21. A kill by sophomore Cara Mulholland tied the match at eight and the Leopards took the lead for good when a junior Kathleen Kretzmer service ace gave Lafayette an 11-10 edge. That lead continued to increase over the course of the game and the Leopards secured their win.

Lafayette never trailed in the third and final game of the night. The Leopards jumped out to a 1-0 lead after an attacking error by Bachman and led by as much as five (7-2) early in the game. The Warriors would pull within three at 14-11 after a kill by Bachman but would pull no closer. Lafayette upped its lead a match-high 12 at 24-12 following a kill by freshman Kelsey Slater. The Leopards won the game on a kill by Racibarskas, making the final score 30-19.

The Leopards wrap-up their regular season with a two-match homestand this weekend, both against Patriot League opponents. Lafayette will first host Navy on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by American on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Leopards' three seniors will be honored prior to the start of the match against the Eagles.
