EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette handed Kutztown its first loss of the season, defeating the Golden bears 3-1 in volleyball action Wednesday night. With the win, the Leopards improve to 3-2 on the season.
Lafayette took the first game 30-23 but fell to Kutztown in the second, 30-17. The Leopards quickly rebounded, however, to take the next two games by a score of 30-28 in each.
The final two games were back-and-forth battles with both teams sharing the lead multiple times throughout. The Leopards finally won the third game on a Kutztown error. In the fourth game, a kill by Elmer secured the victory.
Katrina Racibarskas and Michaela Donohue led the team in kills with 16 each. Donohue also had 15 digs to finish with a double-double. Freshman Kayly Elmer also had a kill-dig double-double with 13 each. Megan Carter again led the team in assists with 32 and now has 169 on the season.
The win gave the Leopards a winning record at 3-2 while handing the Golden Bears their first defeat of the season.
Lafayette is back in action this weekend when the team hosts the annual Lafayette College Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Fairleigh Dickinson and George Washington will all travel to Easton for the Tournament.
