Box Score

EASTON, Pa. - In volleyball action Friday night, the Leopards (2-3) fell to George Washington 3-0 on the opening day of the Lafayette College Volleyball Tournament. Lafayette had a strong showing against the Colonials, however, with three players reaching double digits in digs and another posting double figures in assists.

"I thought we played well against a tough George Washington team," head coach Terri Dadio Campbell said. "We played well on defense and we worked on the things we needed to work on."

Michaela Donohue (Los Gatos, Calif.) led the team in digs with 13 while also adding four kills. Kari Horn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) and freshman Kayly Elmer (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) each added 11 digs for the Leopards. Fellow freshman Katrina Racibarskas (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) led the team with six kills while Megan Carter (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser) recorded a team-best 16 assists.

The first game was particularly competitive, as George Washington held on for a 30-24 win. Lafayette managed to close to within two of the lead (17-19) and despite scoring two of the final three points the Leopards could not come all the way back for a win.

The second game saw George Washington post a 30-23 win over the Leopards. Racibarskas recorded three of her six kills in that game and also finished with four digs.

George Washington controlled much of the third and final game as Lafayette fell 13-30 to the Colonials. Elmer and Horn led the Leopards with five digs apiece.

In the first match of the tournament, Fairleigh Dickinson battled the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and escaped with the five game win.

The tournament continues tomorrow with four matches on the schedule. Lafayette will face Maryland Eastern Shore at 10 a.m. and play its final match of the weekend against Fairleigh Dickinson at 4:00 p.m.
