EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette men's soccer team returns home to host Patriot League opponent Army on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Leopards will also welcome back former players as Saturday marks the program's annual Alumni Day.
Lafayette (4-5-3, 0-1-2) is coming off a 1-0 overtime win at Villanova on Tuesday night. Junior Steve Ference scored the game winner with 32 seconds remaining in the first overtime period. Goalie Andrew Pianko finished with four saves to record his fourth shutout of the season. Tuesday's victory snapped a four-match losing streak for the Leopards.
Sophomore B.J. Glenn and freshman Wayne Maminski lead the Lafayette offense with three goals apiece. Sophomore Stephen Macurdy recorded his team-high fourth assist of the season in Tuesday's win. Goalie Philip Nelson has started all three of the Leopards' league games this season. He has a goals-against average of 1.10 and a .789 save percentage.
Army is also coming off a Tuesday victory, having earned a 2-1 win over NJIT. It was the Black Knights' (2-9-0, 0-2-0) second victory of the fall. Bryan Connolly and Patrick McVey lead the team in scoring with three goals. A.J. Glubzinski has made eight starts in goal and has a 2.09 goals-against average.
Lafayette is 11-16-8 all-time against the Black Knights, including a scoreless tie in West Point, N.Y. last season. The Leopards have not lost to Army since 2000 and have gone 4-0-3 since that season.
Following Saturday's game, the Leopards travel to Columbia on Tuesday for a midweek, non-conference game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
