NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Lafayette men's golf team improved upon its first round finish of 316 to tie Fordham for 20th place with a final score of 632 at Yale's Spring Opener on Sunday. The Leopards shaved nine strokes off the first day of competition with a second round score of 307 to improve from their 22nd place after round one.
Freshmen Tyler Ostrovsky and Erik Adolfsson led the team placing 57 and 65, respectively. Ostrovsky shot identical rounds of 76 on each day and Adolfsson recorded a team-best round of 74 on Saturday. The Hampton, N.J. native shot a 79 on the final day for a combined 153 finish.
Senior Brandon Mitchel, sophomore Reed Valutas and junior Steve Melnic all finished day one with a round of 83. Each improved on their efforts from the first day en route to the team moving up two places in the standings from the first day.
The Leopards will host their own tournament, the Lafayette Invitational, on April 12-13 at Center Valley Country Club.
