EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's volleyball team fought hard for five sets and came out on top of a 3-2 decision over Marist on the first day of the Crosstown Tournament. The Leopards won the decisive fifth set by a 15-8 score to win their third match of the season.
Sophomore Kayly Elmer led both teams with 18 kills while also adding six digs. Megan Carter and Ashton Rossi had double digit assist totals with 22 and 20, respectively.
The Leopards (3-6) dropped the first set 25-20 but rebounded to win the second and third 25-15 and 25-23, respectively. In both sets, Elmer secured the wins with a kill.
After dropping the fourth set 25-20, Lafayette won the fifth and final set by a 15-8 score. The match ended with two straight kills by Cara Mulholland to give the Leopards a win on the opening day of the tournament.
The Crosstown Tournament concludes tomorrow with the Leopards facing Columbia at 10 a.m. and Quinnipiac at 3 p.m. in the final match of the day.
