EASTON, Pa. - The Leopards' six-match homestand ended on a positive note in the form of a 3-1 win over Howard on Tuesday evening. The volleyball team captured its 10th win of the season and improved to 8-4 at home this fall.
Lafayette (10-6) dropped the first set 25-18 but rebounded to capture the final three by 25-18, 26-24 and 25-16 scores.
Cara Mulholland tied for the match high with 19 kills and Kayly Elmer added 10. Senior Ashton Rossi had 35 assists and classmate Kari Horn added 14 digs. Sophomore Alana Taylor contributed four blocks (two solo, two assisted) and the Leopards finished with an attacking percentage of .212, compared to a .195 showing from Howard (4-18).
After losing a seven-point decision in the opening set, Lafayette rebounded to take the second set by the same 25-18 score. With the exception of an early 1-0 hole, the Leopards never fell behind and a Howard service error ended the set and tied the match at one-all.
It may have taken extra points to determine a winner in the third set, but Lafayette pulled off the 26-24 win thanks to another Bison error, this time an attacking error.
The Leopards saved their most solid set for the final one. Again they trailed early, 2-1, but quickly took over the set and upped their lead to nine (19-10). They held on to that nine-point advantage and ended the match on a kill from Taylor.
The Leopards hit the road on Friday but are not going far - they will make the short trip to face Patriot League archrival Lehigh for a 7 p.m. match.
