LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sunday was a repeat of day one at Bucknell for the Lafayette softball team. The Leopards took game one, 2-1, but could not sweep the doubleheader after the Bison walked away with an 8-0 victory in game two. The squads split the four-game series.
Though Lafayette (8-15, 4-4) went three-and-out in the first inning, the team scored all it needed to in the top of the second to seal the win. The Bison walked Christina Giambrone, who aided Saturday's game one win with a homer, but it didn't matter.
Catcher Stacey Kushner homered to left field, bringing in Lafayette's two runs. The Leopards shut out the Bison for the rest of the game.
Pitcher Kasey Karr, who went 2-for-3 at the plate, threw a complete game and tied a season-high six strikeouts without walking a single batter.
Much like Saturday, the Bucknell batters found their rhythm in game two. Cassie Lloyd led the way, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI, and was one of three Bison who recorded multiple hits.
Lafayette was poised to score in the top of the fifth after Kerry Griffin and Stacey Dorn both drew walks. Emma Kline replaced Griffin as a pinch runner, but when Robyn Matchett singled to center field, Kline was thrown out at home for the inning's final out.
Ashley Beans belted a homer over the left field wall in the bottom of the sixth to lift the Bison to the 8-0 victory.
The Leopards return home on Wednesday to face St. Joseph's at 3:30 p.m.
