EASTON, Pa. - The Leopards opened their annual Lafayette Volleyball Tournament on Friday afternoon and dropped their evening match against St. Peter's, 3-1. Senior Cara Mulholland recorded a double-double, her first of the season, with 12 kills and 10 digs.

Lafayette (1-1) dropped the first set 25-19, won the second 25-21, but lost the final two 25-22 and 25-19.

Sophomore Alana Taylor joined Mulholland in double-digit kills with 12. Senior tri-captain Ashton Rossi finished with a match-high 35 assists.

The Peahens (2-3) jumped out to an early lead in the first set and had a game-high eight-point edge (24-16) late in the set. The Leopards scored three unanswered points to close the gap to five but a kill by Kim Mendoza clinched the win for St. Peter's.

Lafayette rebounded by capturing the second set. The Leopards led 22-17 late in the action and closed out victory with a kill from Taylor.

St. Peter's then took the final two sets. The Leopards, who trailed by as many as seven (8-1) early on managed to pull within one (23-22) after a St. Peter's service error, but the Peahens scored the final two points.

The lead changed hands early in the decisive final set, but St. Peter's slowly pulled away and took the match on a Mulholland attack error.

In the first match of the tournament, Delaware State defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 3-2.

The tournament concludes tomorrow with four matches beginning at 10 a.m.
