EASTON, Pa. - Senior co-captains Kayly Elmer and Katrina Racibarskas aimed to lead by example - combining for 30 of the Lafayette volleyball team's 49 kills against Holy Cross on Saturday. The Leopards, however, were unable to build upon a first-set victory, as the visiting Crusaders took the Patriot League match in four sets by a score of 20-25, 25-22, 31-29 and 25-16.

With the loss, Lafayette drops to 4-19 overall and remains winless at 0-9 in Patriot League play. The Crusaders improve to 11-17 on the season with a 3-6 league mark.

Elmer posted her fifth double-double of the season, leading all players with 16 kills and also adding 11 digs. Racibarskas had 14 kills and had a hand in four blocks. Freshman Karissa Ciliento slammed home seven kills for the Leopards, and sophomore Alexandra Russo contributed six finishers. Sophomore Kaitlynn Zoller had three kills, sophomore setter Sarah Frohnapfel landed two and freshman Mackenzie Larsen rounded out the attack with one kill.

Frohnapfel ran the offense and tallied a match-best 43 assists.

The Leopards played an outstanding defensive match, outdigging the Crusaders, 76-69. Larsen claimed the match high with 24 digs - leading four Lafayette players in double figures. Ciliento had a career-high 15 digs and junior Christy Mebust tallied 14 in addition to Elmer's 11.

The Maroon and White actually posted more kills than the Crusaders (49-45) but were hampered by 13 service errors, six receiving errors and 35 attack errors - 17 of which came via Holy Cross blocks. The Leopards had five blocks in the four-set contest.

The visitors were paced by a double-double from Megan Lynch, whose 14 kills and 20 digs were both the team highs for Holy Cross. Chelsey O'Donnell dished out 41 assists as the Crusaders' setter and also notched a double-double with 11 digs.

The Leopards will be back in action for another Patriot League showdown on Oct. 29 at perennial rival Lehigh.
