BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lafayette volleyball team traveled to historic rival Lehigh on Friday night looking to avenge a loss in Easton earlier this season. The Mountain Hawks completed the season sweep, however, taking the match by a 3-0 tally. Lehigh won by set scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-13. Sophomore Alexandra Russo and freshman Karissa Ciliento each had seven kills for the Leopards.
With the loss, Lafayette falls to 4-20 overall and 0-10 in Patriot League action. The Leoaprds are officially out of the hunt for a spot in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament. Lehigh evened its record at 11-11 on the season with a 5-5 league mark.
Russo's seven kills came on a .455 hitting percentage (7-2-11), while Ciliento's seven finishers were complemented by seven digs. Sophomore setter Sarah Frohnapfel ran the offense and finished with 14 assists.
Defensively, a pair of Leopards reached double-figure digs, with senior co-captain Kayly Elmer posted a team-high 11 and freshman libero Mackenzie Larsen adding 10. Elmer also had a solo block, with Russo and senior co-captain Katrina Racibarskas teaming up for Lafayette's other rejection in the match.
Lehigh's Courtney McCutchan was the lone player to record double-figure kills with 10. Setter Jessica Kudirka and Dana Raber each had 16 assists for the Mountain Hawks, while Angelika Kopacz led all players with 17 digs. Kopacz also landed four of Lehigh's nine aces.
The Leopards are back in action next weekend, with a Nov. 5-6 road trip to Colgate and Bucknell. Friday's match in Hamilton, N.Y. is slated for 7 p.m., while the Saturday showdown in Lewisburg will begin at 5 p.m.
