ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Lafayette men's soccer team earned its biggest three points of the 2010 season on Saturday evening, shutting out Navy in Annapolis by a score of 1-0. The Leopards' season came to an end just minutes later, however, as Bucknell grabbed an overtime win at Lehigh to claim the fourth and final slot in the Patriot League Tournament.
With the victory, Lafayette ends its season at 8-7-3 overall with 3-3-1 mark in the Patriot League. The Midshipmen - who would have advanced to the postseason with a victory - also wrapped up their campaign, finishing with a record of 7-5-4 overall and 2-2-3 in league play.
Peckham's penalty kick came at 48:08. It was his fourth goal of the season - which gives him a share of the team high in goals with sophomore Kyle Scharfenberg and the overall Lafayette points lead with 12 (4-4-12).
Senior goalkeeper Andrew Pianko posted his third shutout of the season, stopping both shots he faced from the Mids. Aaron Dupere made a pair of saves for Navy.
The Leopards were outshot 16-11 by the Midshipmen but held a 3-2 edge in shots on target. The Maroon and White earned two corner-kick opportunities to Navy's four.
The Leopards close out 2010 with a winning overall record for the tenth consecutive season and notch three or more Patriot League wins for the ninth straight campaign.
