EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette men's soccer team has announced nine student-athletes will join its squad this fall as members of the Class of 2014.
Dennis Bohn, who is entering his 10th season as the Leopards' head coach, will welcome two All-Americans in a group of players that comes from Pennsylvania, New York, Texas, New Jersey and Ohio.
Philadelphia product Peter Adubato (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) is a four-time All-Inter AC player, including two First-Team selections. The team captain was named to the All-Southeastern Pennsylvania Second Team in 2009 and is a two-time MVP at Chestnut Hill. Adubato finished his career with 43 goals and 22 assists.
He is also a four-year letterwinner in lacrosse for Chestnut Hill and earned Second-Team All-Inter AC honors as a sophomore and junior. Adubato plays his club ball for Spirit United.
Erik Cannon (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) earned Pennsylvania All-State honors this past fall, a season in which he served as team captain for Dallas. He also earned Times Leader and Citizens Voice All-Star recognition as a senior.
Cannon plays with the FC Delco Academy U18 squad in the U.S. Developmental Academy.
Cannon, who has earned Honors with Distinction recognition at Dallas, was a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the Steering Class of 2010 and Economics and Ski Clubs.
Ben Drake (Spring Lake, N.J./Manasquan) is a First-Team All-State player who was awarded "Soccer Athlete of the Season" by the Coast Star. He is also a two-time First-Team all-conference and All-Monmouth County selection.
Drake plays his club soccer for BOCA, a team that captured the 2009 U.S. Club New Jersey State Cup.
A New Jersey News 12 Student-Athlete of the Week, Drake served as a math tutor at Manasquan.
The second New Jersey native joining the team is Alec Golini (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley). Golini comes to Lafayette with a list of accomplishments and honors. He was a NSCAA National All-American in 2009 and was tabbed the New Jersey South Player of the Year by the NJSCA in 2009. He also earned the title of South Jersey Midfielder of the Year from the SJSCA and was a First-Team All-State player as a senior.
Golini is a two-time member of the All-South Jersey First Team while also picking up Philadelphia Inquirer and Burlington County South Jersey Player of the Year honors. A three-year captain of Rancocas Valley, he was a starter for the 2008 Group IV State Championship team. He finished his career with 30 goals and 41 assists.
Golini played club soccer for the South Jersey Barons and will be joining TSF Celtic for the 2010 season. He joins fellow Rancocas Valley graduates and current Lafayette student-athletes Stephen Macurdy '11, Luke Calvano '12 and Blake Fink '13.
A four-year Honor Roll member, Golini was a member of the National and Spanish Honor Societies and was a Varsity Club Scholar-Athlete.
Nathan McDonald (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay) was a three-year varsity starter at Bay and a 2009 NSCAA National All-American. He earned Division II First-Team All-State honors in 2009 and was tabbed the division's Greater Cleveland Player of the Year. McDonald, who was also named Bay's MVP, helped his team advance to the Ohio State Final.
The goalie broke Bay's career goals-against record, a mark previously held by former national team and current Aston Villa goalie Brad Friedel.
McDonald was a member of PSA United and currently plays for the Ohio Internationals U18 Academy Team in the U.S. Developmental Academy.
Off the soccer field, McDonald was the Student Council Vice President and the assistant director of National Youth Leadership Training.
Jeff McLaughlin (Harding, N.J./Delbarton) had a prolific career at Delbarton and leaves as the school's record holder in goals scored with 50 over his three-year varsity career. He earned NSCAA Regional All-America honors this year and was the first-ever Player of the Year recipient for both the NJAC as well as Morris County. McLaughlin earned First-Team All-State and All-County honors and was named the MVP of the 2009 New Jersey High School State All-Star Showcase.
McLaughlin plays his club soccer for TSF Celtic, a team that won the 2009 New Jersey State Cup championship.
McLaughlin is a member of the National Honor Society and has earned high honors every term at Delbarton.
Brandon Turner (Bayshore, N.Y./Bay Shore) was a two-time Offensive MVP for Bay Shore as well a two-time All-Conference selection. As a senior, he earned All-Suffolk County honors and served as team captain.
Turner is the starting forward for Massapequa Aces, the 2009 ENY State Cup champions.
Outside of soccer, Turner is an Honor Roll student as well as a member of the marching and jazz bands, Service Honor Society, Peer Support and Athletes Helping Athletes.
Ryan Wetherhold (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland) is a Lehigh Valley product and earned NSCAA Regional All-America honors as a senior. Wetherhold was the 2009 Morning Call Player of the Year as well as the 2009 Lehigh Valley Conference (LVC) MVP and a Pennsylvania All-State player. His 2007 and 2008 Parkland squads were District XI champions and the 2009 team captured the LVC title.
Wetherhold plays club soccer for Lehigh Valley United and played internationally in Spain in 2008 as a member of the Region I ODP squad.
In addition to his soccer career at Parkland, Wetherhold is also a four-year member of the track and field teams, competing in the 100 and 200 meter relays.
Wetherhold is a member of the National, German and Math Honor Societies and an honor roll student.
Texas native Bryan White (Highland Village, Texas/Flower Mound Marcus) was an all-district player who led the team in assists his junior year and is the team's assist leader as a senior. White has not yet completed his senior season because Texas high school soccer is played in the winter.
White plays for the Dallas Solar SC Academy U18 team in the U.S. Developmental Academy.
Academically, he is an English Honor Society member and a nominee for the National Honor Society.
The Leopards are coming off a season in which they finished 10-7-2, the sixth time in the last seven years the team has recorded at least 10 wins. Lafayette also made its league-record eighth-straight Patriot League Tournament appearance, as well as its 17th overall, also a league record.
